Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute & Society

Psychoanalytic Training

The Adult Psychoanalytic Training Program is for psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.  Scholars and researchers may obtain a special waiver if they wish to add clinical training to their psychoanalytic studies.

The Child/Adolescent Psychoanalytic Training Program can be taken concurrently with the Adult Training Program, or a graduate analyst may return at a later time to pursue this additional training.

The Child-Focused Training Program is for mental health professionals who wish to specialize in child and adolescent psychoanalysis.

The Early Admission Program is for residents and doctoral psychology students. The program requires personal psychotherapy or psychoanalysis, a series of seminars and psychotherapy supervision.

The Academic Candidate Program is for scholars, researchers and professionals in other fields.  The candidate in this program has the same requirements and opportunities for systematic study and immersion in psychoanalytic thinking and method as in the clinical programs but without the requirement for supervised clinical work. The personal analysis may be conducted by any certified analyst.

The Academic Fellowship Program is for established scholars who wish to achieve a bridge between psychoanalysis and their own fields of scholarship.  The Fellowship is normally one year but can be extended to two.

Detailed descriptions of all the psychoanalytic training programs, including application materials and scholarship information may be found in our documents section, or interested applicants may obtain the most recent copy of the Bulletin of Information from the office.

These programs carry CME/CE credits.
