The Chamber Music Society of Detroit Presents: The Juilliard String Quartet
This world renowned quartet was founded in 1946 with a mandate "to play new works as if they were established masterpieces and established masterpieces as if they were new.” The program is all Beethoven: Beethoven’s String Quartet in C# minor opus 131 and Beethoven’s String Quartet in A minor, opus 132. The quartet will play at 8 pm.
The world premiere of renowned filmmaker Michael Blackwood”s documentary: “The Juilliard String Quartet: Keeping Beethoven Contemporary” will be screened as a pre-concert film at 6:30 p.m. Blackwood has produced and directed more than 125 films, creatively constructing a permanent record of innovation in culture and the arts.
Drs. Julie Jaffee Nagel (psychoanalyst, Juilliard graduate and author of the soon to be released “Melodies of the Mind”) and Louis Nagel (professor of piano at the University of Michigan and Juilliard graduate) will invite the audience to join in their online discussion of the film and concert on the Reel Deal website.
The Chamber Music Society of Detroit is a nonprofit organization committed to bringing the world’s best chamber music artists to Metro Detroit. Its mission to also reach underserved inner city students brought chamber music to more than 5000 children in 2011-2012. They are generously offering all APT and MPS members a ticket discount for this event.
