Adoption is about as old as mankind. Even Oedipus was adopted. In this course, we will examine the adoptive situation, what it means for the adopted child, what it means for the adoptive parents, and why the one burning question in every adoptee's mind can never be satisfactorily answered, "How could my mother do this to me?” The goals of this course are to understand the adoptee's experience, and to learn to be keen to viewing the psychotherapy material in terms of the adoption, using even oblique references in the material as cues to the adoption experience.
