About the presenter: Alex Colston is an editor and writer and teaches psychoanalysis at the Brooklyn Institute of Social Research. He is co-director of the Psychosocial Foundation and deputy editor of the Parapraxis Magazine. He has written extensively on the relationship of psychoanalysis to history, politics and contemporary social issues.

Practice Gap/Need: This paper is based on a recent court case between Tavistock Clinic and the High Court in England. The author will utilize ideas of Lacan to discuss the place and role of the analyst/therapist in the treating trans patients and providing gender-affirming care. 

After attending this session, participants should be able to:

1.   Clarify issues about legal vs. psychoanalytic forms of trans care.

2.   Discuss new ways of talking about sex/gender/sexuality.
