Latest News from Walnut Lake Preschool
A major milestone has been met with full enrollment of 7 children, our maximum for one classroom with two teachers! On a cold snowy day, a visit to indoor recess where vehicles manned by our 7 exuberant drivers, zooming around but not crashing, can warm your heart. We begin our third year in January, 2011 with deep gratitude for the wide community support offered by our very generous donors, a growing cadre of professional referral sources, our impressive team of teachers, family consultants, and a very dedicated Advisory Board.
Our devoted Family Consultants (Marc Hirsch, Ph.D., Bette Glickfield, Ph.D., Lakshmi Kaza, M.D., Lori Chopra, M.A., Robin Rayford, M.A., Rebecca Mair, Ph.D., Marcy Broder, LMSW ) meet weekly with their respective families, a most valued aspect of our program. Our interns: Jen (WSU art therapy graduate student) and Adam Walker (MSPP Psychology grad student) greatly enrich the classroom.
We have recently welcomed Mark Schwartz, Ph.D. to our Advisory Board which is co-chaired by Richard Blieden and Carrie Doelle.
You will soon be invited to our next fund-raiser to be held in mid-April where you will hear from parents first-hand how our psychoanalytic preschool has changed their lives. Children, who might have destroyed or run out of their former regular classroom, are now able to decorate a blanket for one of their classmates who is having surgery, dance together with movement scarves, try yoga, paint with pine needles in black paint as they learn about calligraphy, or sit side-by-side at their new Listening Center.
We welcome your interest in and continued support of WLP.
